The Prehab4Cancer Education and Upskilling Event was successfully delivered on 23 April 2026 at Wythenshawe Forum, bringing together colleagues from across Greater Manchester to support workforce development and strengthen system-wide collaboration.
The Education and Upskilling Event was designed to help local leisure providers develop their workforce by enhancing the knowledge, skills and confidence of exercise specialists supporting people living with and beyond cancer, alongside their Level 4 Cancer Rehabilitation qualification. By strengthening local rehabilitation pathways and supporting the delivery of more local exercise and rehabilitation sessions, this new collaborative approach aims to provide patients with greater access to safe and effective physical activity opportunities alongside the existing Prehab4Cancer programme. This gives patients more options to stay active during recovery while continuing to receive support from the Prehab4Cancer team. As a result of this work, rehabilitation pathways are now live in 50% of localities across Greater Manchester, with plans to expand this across all localities by the end of the year, giving more patients access to local rehabilitation and physical activity support.
The day included engaging sessions covering:
- Exercise for people affected by cancer
- Nutrition education
- Cancer-specific clinical information
We also delivered SAGE & THYME foundation-level workshops, an evidence-based communication framework that supports effective, compassionate conversations with people affected by cancer and is widely recognised across healthcare settings.
The event made a measurable contribution to upskilling the workforce capability across leisure and health partners involved in delivering Prehab4Cancer as well as reinforcing and strengthened the integrated model of delivery between GM Active health partners and P4C.
